We Set Science-Based Targets for 2030. We Beat Them in 2025.
In 2023, EdgeConneX was admitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), setting goals to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions 50.3% and carbon intensity 51.6% by 2030, from a 2021 baseline. SBTi classified our Scope 1 and 2 target ambition as in line with a 1.5°C trajectory.
Our SBTi affiliation matters because it provides a credible, independently validated framework for setting emissions-reduction goals that are aligned with climate science, not just internal ambition. This helps stakeholders assess whether a company’s climate commitments are meaningful, measurable, and accountable.
The Proof
Our 2025 Sustainability Report, our sixth annual, shows where we stand. Scope 1 and 2 emissions are down 63.5% since 2021. Carbon intensity is down 66.7%. Both targets beat five years early.
We did it while growing. Installed capacity rose 14.9% in 2025, to 471 MW, as demand for cloud and AI infrastructure accelerated worldwide. Growth and climate progress are often framed as a trade-off. The numbers say they don’t have to be.
How we got here
No single lever did this. Scope 2 is 100% renewable worldwide through green supply contracts, energy attribute credits, and power purchase agreements, and our total renewable energy share reached 91.7%. 
Scope 1 emissions fell 26.5% year-over-year, with the remainder carbon neutral through third-party verified offsets. Fleet-wide operational PUE held at 1.32, and new projects like the rooftop solar installation at our Sacramento data center, projected to generate over 300 MWh per year, keep pushing efficiency forward.

Work to be done
Our report names greenwashing as a business risk, so as part of our commitment to transparency, we publish the challenges alongside the accomplishments. And as the AI buildout intensifies, the emissions tied to construction and operation will get harder before they get easier. Carbon intensity still fell 6.3% year over year, and we’re working with suppliers and customers on the value chain, but the next five years are the hard part. We’d rather tell you that now than surprise you later.

Where our industry settles for adjectives, we answer with evidence and published annual reports reviewed and verified by a third-party auditor.
