HERNDON, VA., February 5, 2024 — EdgeConneX®, the pioneer in global Hyperlocal to Hyperscale Data Center Solutions, today announces its formal validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. For EdgeConneX, this significant milestone reflects its unwavering commitment to building and operating global data centers sustainably and supports the company’s objective of achieving carbon, waste, and water neutrality by 2030.
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an acclaimed global partnership enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. The initiative is a collaboration between the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). SBTi is focused on accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
The SBTi’s Target Validation Team has classified EdgeConneX Scope 1 and 2 target ambition as in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process for companies within the ICT sector.
As noted by SBTI: EdgeConneX, International Cooperatief U.A. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.3% by 2030 from a 2021 base year*. The EdgeConneX commitment to sustainability extends beyond its data centers. The company proactively implements strategies to conserve resources, minimize waste, and promote efficient energy use across all operations while considering additional impacts its data centers may have on local surroundings.
