Edge Data Center® Certifications

We are committed to ensuring that our Edge Data Centers® are both designed and built to operate with exceptional attention to detail, meeting the highest industry certification standards. Our sophisticated customers expect top-notch facilities and we strive to guarantee that the Edge Data Centers in our national portfolio represent the following operational certifications:

Certification Description Why we have it

Service Organization Control (SOC) audits have been the standard 3rd party audit for a broad range of industries and sectors over the course of the last few decades. SOC 2 Type 2 audits assess a service organization handling some aspect of another company’s business as a 3rd party. In the data center industry, more and more data center companies are using SOC 2 audits to get an objective view into their business operations as well as at the data center level.

Having accredited auditors examine EdgeConneX offers valuable industry insight, as well as perspective into the latest information around security practices. SOC 2 Type 2 audits offer an unbiased assessment of our national operating model over a period of time and at each Edge Data Center, giving customers confidence that no mater what facility they are in, all assets deployed at the Edge are secure and available.

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council set the information security standards for organizations that handle card payment transactions. These standards are known as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), and must be followed by any organization that processes card payments. The standards are designed to protect against fraud by utilizing controls and best practices when dealing with customer’s critical data.

EdgeConneX must adhere and operate within the rigid PCI DSS standards to ensure card payment transactions are safe and secure. Handling and transmitting cardholder information at the Edge has never been more secure than with our Edge Data Centers.

In 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed by Congress, which enables employees of companies to retain health insurance while in between employment. Hospitals, insurance companies, healthcare providers and IT professionals within the healthcare industry heavily rely on HIPAA, which was expanded in 2009 to include Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH). With the transition from paper to digital, HIPAA compliance is critical for companies operating in the healthcare sector.

Our customers in the healthcare industry have very strict data storage requirements and EdgeConneX is committed to ensuring that our Edge Data Centers are safe and secure locations at the Edge of the network. Patient healthcare information and records are more readily accessible to those who need the information quickly.

The scope of our International Organization of Standardization: ISO 27001:2013 certification includes the EdgeConneX Information Security Management System (ISMS), which aims to appropriately preserve privacy and the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) of EdgeConneX information assets. The ISMS framework serves as an EdgeConneX mechanism to appropriately identify, select, maintain, and improve information security controls that are critical to its clients and business. The ISMS is managed from the EdgeConneX offices and supplemented by production data center facilities.

ISO 27001 is a proven industry framework and mindset for identifying information assets, controls and mitigation steps to secure the companies and customers information pertaining to our Edge Data Centers, Systems, Processes, employees and contractors.  In addition, a continuous process improvement lifecycle that goes through rigorous reviews, executive alignment and annual audits.

The European Commission’s Data Protection Directive prohibits the transfer of personal data to non-European Union countries that do not meet the EU adequacy standard for privacy protection. While the United States and the EU share the goal of enhancing privacy protection for their citizens, the United States established a different approach to privacy from that taken by the EU. In order to bridge these differences in approach and provide a streamlined means for U.S. organizations to comply with the Directive, the U.S. Department of Commerce in consultation with the European Commission developed the “Privacy Shield” framework to provide the principles an organization would need to implement and comply with in order to join the U.S.-EU Privacy Shield program.

With EdgeConneX operating a global footprint, respecting and abiding by the laws and regulations of other countries is paramount. Global online growth and data crossing international borders is more and more common, with those numbers growing exponentially in the years to come. By self-certifying with the U.S. Department of Commerce and being vetted by a third party, EdgeConneX agrees to the principles set out in the Privacy Shield Framework. This voluntary process ensures we are handling European Union citizen’s data properly while still enabling the flow of internet commerce. EdgeConneX believes that providing transparency around data usage polices and allowing individuals to opt-out of data transfers to third parties is critical to cybersecurity.

Open-IX OIX-2 Certification is a best-in-class and first ever global certification for data centers desiring to serve as points of network interconnection. OIX-2 Certification sets a minimum level of service, SLA and engineering for data centers. OIX-2 was developed by a broad consensus of world-class data center managers, engineers and their customers. It sets the standard for massive-scale interconnection supporting facility performance, resiliency and reliability for all that need to be able to reliably interconnect networks.

At EdgeConneX, we encourage and enable cost-effective local interconnections and open peering between our customers and we strive to meet Open-IX standards and compliance in our national portfolio of Edge Data Centers.
