Microsoft has partnered with EdgeConneX to offer access to Azure ExpressRoute in multiple data center locations across North America. Microsoft’s ExpressRoute lets you extend your on-premises networks into the Microsoft cloud over a dedicated private connection. With ExpressRoute, you can establish connection to Microsoft cloud services, such as Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and Dynamics 365. The service connects directly to your WAN, offering improved speed and increased reliability, along with greater security as the public internet is completely bypassed. This solution, enabled by EdgeConneX and our networking partner Megaport, enables direct network links within the local data center, allowing virtual connections to be provisioned real time, on-demand, through the online portal or another network-connected device.
ExpressRoute is a network service, and provides a direct private connection into all Microsoft cloud platforms. By connecting through EdgeConneX and our partner Megaport, direct network links can be made locally within the EdgeConneX data center, enabling an end-to-end provisioned service all the way to the nearest ExpressRoute cloud on-ramp. This local connection eliminates the need for securing expensive long haul connectivity, reducing overall cost for privately connecting to the Azure Cloud.
Connections to ExpressRoute are dedicated, offering consistent network performance, and not subject to traffic throughput issues often experienced when using public internet. This leads to better reliability from not only the underlying network and cloud platform, but also the applications as well.
Using localized ExpressRoute connections help eliminate the need for expensive long haul transport services. In addition, using ExpressRoute often leads to significant cost benefits and lower overall TCO when transferring data to and from Azure.
Once connected ExpressRoute through the EdgeConneX data center, bandwidths can be changed on-demand, allowing the flexibility needed to upgrade and downgrade connections as network demands warrant. This instant capacity management, enabled by the Megaport software platform, can be done anytime, on any device.
ExpressRoute provides a direct connection between your internal network and the Azure Cloud, completely bypassing the public Internet. This keeps your network traffic isolated from potential threats and helps eliminate other security concerns.
Megaport is a software service controlling a global hardware infrastructure that supplies elastic bandwidth for virtual connections, all enabled through a web portal or mobile app, allowing full automation and service flexibility. EdgeConneX has partnered with Megaport in multiple Edge Data Centers to bring on-demand private cloud access to the edge, all leveraging their global network footprint.
