Fixed Assets Accountant

Fixed Assets Accountant

The Fixed Assets Accountant will be responsible for accountable for recording the cost of newly-acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. They will also be accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local levels in a timely manner, and advising management on the tax impact of various corporate strategies.

Duties

  • Create and monitor a system of controls, policies and procedures for the recordation of fixed assets
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
  • Monitor compliance with capitalization policies and procedures
  • Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts, and close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed
  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger
  • Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation
  • Investigate the potential obsolescence of fixed assets
  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of fixed assets
  • Represent the company during any audits that involve fixed assets
  • Track company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations
  • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets, and assist the auditors in their inquiries
  • Complete required tax reporting in a timely manner
  • Prepare and update tax provision schedules
  • Research and correct process errors that caused incorrect tax filings
  • Negotiate with tax authorities over tax payment issues
  • Devise tax strategies to defer or eliminate tax payments
  • Advise management regarding the tax impact of corporate strategies and impact of new laws on tax liabilities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience performing Fixed Assets and Tax Accountant duties
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting methods, principles, and the ability to apply this knowledge
  • Well versed with standard concepts, practices and procedures within Fixed Assets
  • Thorough understanding of Tax related accounting
  • Experience with preparing and reviewing schedules and supporting documents necessary to file consolidated federal, state and tax returns
  • Proficiency as a resource for tax related questions
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to read and understand legal documents and appropriately record the impact according to GAAP
  • Solid organizational and analytical skill
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across the organization

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance or a related field
  • CPA preferred
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Software packages, Sage AccPac strongly preferred
  • Strong PC skills to include Microsoft Office, specifically advanced in Excel
  • Experience in Telecommunications Industry required, preferably with a focus on Data Center services
